Extended Gerber RS-274X Compatibility Tests

This technical archive preserves comparative PCB CAM import tests for Extended Gerber files, including standard macro apertures, parameterized aperture macros and representative Gerber geometry.

Historical Extended Gerber compatibility test summary
Summary of the preserved historical Gerber import tests.
Test scope

Gerber import compatibility

RS-274X carries PCB image geometry through flashes, draws, regions and aperture definitions. Correct interpretation of aperture macros is especially important because one compact definition may generate repeated, rotated or parameterized geometry throughout a design.

Macro apertures

Test 1 checks basic Extended Gerber aperture macros without parameters.

Representative geometry

Tests 2 and 3 use two Gerber examples to compare imported geometry and generated isolation paths.

Parameterized macros

Test 4 exercises more than 25 parameterized macro apertures and is the most demanding file in the preserved set.

Historical scope: The screenshots record results from the software versions available when these tests were performed. They do not claim to represent the behavior of current competitor versions.

Original Extended Gerber files

The original files used for the archived comparison remain available for independent inspection and import testing.

Historical Gerber import results

The summary and screenshots show how each tested software version interpreted the same Extended Gerber inputs. Open any image to inspect the original full-size capture.

Reading the archive: Results apply only to the named historical software versions and the supplied files. The screenshots are retained as test evidence; current releases may behave differently.
Archived Gerber compatibility summary table

Original summary table

The preserved test set includes macro apertures, parameterized macro apertures and simple Gerber examples used to verify import and output quality.

Test method

Each application was given the corresponding Gerber input and the visible imported geometry or generated isolation result was captured. The downloadable files above allow the same inputs to be examined independently.
